Os corredores vão ficando estreitos

Na medida em que o tempo vira tempo. 

De forma que, cada vez, é mais difícil passar por ele.

E chega o dia, que de tão estreito, passa apenas um,

Então chega o dia da última passagem!

The corridors are getting narrower

As time turns to time.

So that, each time, it is harder to pass through it.

And the day comes, when it is so narrow, only one can pass,

Then comes the day of the last passage!

Espreito de minha janela,

Eu me preocupo com o mundo.

Da rua, sinto-me a sentinela,

Sei de tudo, vou bem fundo!

Saber dos outros não é pecado,

É muito boa a maledicência.

Se exagero e pesa a consciência,

Penitência na igreja ao lado!

I look out of my window,

I care about the world.

From the street, I feel like the sentry,

I know everything, I go deep!

Knowing about others is not a sin,

The slander is very good.

If I exaggerate and weigh conscience,

I do penance in the church next door!

Enxergo a vida de modo imperfeito,
Penso coisas espremidas entre paredes.
É pelo meu corredor estreito,
Que vejo o mar, por muitas vezes!

That I see the sea, many times!
